Downloading and printing information


You can download and print information from Cancer Cell Online in one of two formats, PDF and HTML. PDF files, on-screen and printed out, look exactly like articles in the printed version of Cancer Cell but take longer to download than HTML files. HTML files download much more quickly than PDF files but will not look like the articles in the printed version of Cancer Cell.

Saving articles as PDF files


You will probably want to save articles as PDF files rather than HTML, so that they will look and print out like the articles in the printed version of Cancer Cell.

Before you can view or print PDF files, you must:

To save PDF articles to your hard disk:

  1. Click the ‘Reprint (PDF) Version of this Article’ link at the top of the article.
  2. If your browser prompts you for a location, browse to the folder where you want the file to be saved, then click Save. Otherwise, the file will be saved to your default download folder.

Problems with downloading PDF files

The following table lists common problems with downloading PDF files and suggests possible solutions.

Problems using the Acrobat Reader plugin for the Macintosh Use Adobe Acrobat Reader, rather than the plugin.
Unable to open PDF file after downloading Do one of the following, as appropriate:
  • ensure you have Adobe Acrobat installed
  • clear your cache, then download the file again, as it may have been corrupted during the download.

 

Saving pages as HTML


The latest versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer allow you to save a copy of a Cancer Cell article (and the related graphics) to your computer so that you can read the content offline. Refer to your browser’s documentation for further information.

If you do download content from Cancer Cell Online to read later, please ensure your browser is requesting no more than one page per minute.

 

Printing articles from PDF files


If you are printing articles, you will probably want to print from PDF files.

Before you can view or print PDF files, you must:

To print an article, once you have installed and configured Adobe Acrobat Reader:

  1. Click the ‘Reprint (PDF) Version of this article’ link at the top right of the article.

    The PDF version of the article will be downloaded onto your computer and opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

PDF files are large and often take several minutes to download.
  1. In Adobe Acrobat Reader, select the File menu, then select the Print option.

Problems with printing PDF files

The following table lists common problems with printing PDF files and suggests possible solutions.

Problem Possible Solutions
Difficulty printing PDFs Try any of the following, as appropriate:
  • printing one page at a time
  • printing to a faster printer
  • saving the PDF file to your hard drive, then opening it in Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Disk full / Can’t write to file error Try one of the following:
  • printing to a printer with more memory
  • printing a page at a time.

 

Printing contents, search results, and summary pages


We recommend that you print from the HTML pages of Cancer Cell Online if you are printing any of the following:
